Space and Time Savers

In your workshop, use a pocketed shoebag for such items as cans. The bag holds more and takes up less space than a shelf. An empty soft-drink carton makes a convenient kit for holding and carrying lubricants. If you need more workbench storage space, slide an old dresser under the bench and use the drawers for storage.

Empty hand-cream jars are great storage containers for nails. The greasy film left on the sides of the jar will prevent the nails from rusting. To keep the pores of your hands dirt- or grease-free, wipe on a thin coat of shaving cream before starting a messy task.

You won't waste time when picking up spilled nails, screws, or tacks if you collect them with a magnet covered with a paper towel. When the spilled items snap toward the magnet, gather the towel corners over the pieces and then pull the towel "bag'' away from the magnet.
